Deputy - Patrol
About the role
We are inviting professional and positive individuals to join the Anoka County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff in our Patrol Division. Our members follow the mission, "To protect and serve the community in a manner that preserves the public trust."
Responsibilities
- Responds to calls for assistance by citizens in distress or other public safety agencies within Anoka County.
- Enforces all laws including, but not limited to, county/city ordinances, state and federal laws and statutes, traffic laws, and motor vehicle regulations.
- Conducts preliminary investigation of crimes and accidents and provides follow-up investigative work as needed.
- Responds promptly to motor vehicle, home, fire, and recreation accidents; and medical emergencies such as sudden illness and accidental deaths.
- Administers first aid and CPR until medical personnel arrive on the scene.
- Transports prisoners, psychiatric patients, and inebriated patients to and from jails, hospitals, detoxification centers, and other jurisdictions.
- Provides courtroom security and maintains discipline in courtrooms.
- Patrols streets, roads, highways, snowmobile trails, lakes, and rivers to ensure compliance with laws by observing suspicious cars, persons, or actions.
- Performs various administrative and specialty assignments as directed; prepares accurate and complete logs, records, and reports.
- Prepares court testimony and testifies in court regarding investigation procedures, information, and evidence collected.
Requirements
- Must be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training or be eligible to be licensed by April 30th, 2026.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must never have been convicted of a felony.
- Must be able to credibly testify in court.
- Must pass a job-related examination of physical strength and agility consistent with the duties of police officer.
- Must undergo a thorough physical and psychological examination and successfully pass a thorough background investigation.

- Must have a degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- Must have knowledge of laws, judicial procedures, regulations, rules and guidelines related to crime and evidence.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites both indoor and outdoor, may include emergency or disaster response sites in uncontrolled environments depending on assignment.
- Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.
- Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
- Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties.
- Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills.
- Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.
- Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment.
- Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to public safety equipment depending on assignment.
- Public safety equipment may include but is not limited to radios, cameras, GPS devices, radiological testing equipment such as portal monitors and Geiger counters depending on assignment, and personal protective equipment.
- Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
- Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.

Pay
Salary: $86,465 ($41.57 per hour).
Lateral pay based on prior experience.
Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 2105: $86,465 to $116,875 ($41.57 to $56.19 per hour).
Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position.
Work schedules are 12-hour shifts, with a 5 day stretch off every other week.
