About the Role

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is a multi-faceted agency serving juveniles of the Commonwealth. Responsibilities

  • Assists in daily operations of a DJJ facility under the direction of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator, focusing on treatment and business responsibilities.
  • Provides daily supervision to assigned staff and assists in the daily operations of the program.
  • Recommends personnel actions, including disciplinary measures.
  • Administers all aspects of the facility in the absence of the Juvenile Facility Manager or Administrative Coordinator.
  • Interprets and enforces policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation process.
  • Consults with attorneys, parents, departmental personnel, and other interested parties regarding services provided to juveniles in DJJ care.
  • May be required to restrain out-of-control juveniles.
  • Must successfully pass a physical examination and perform all essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. The cost of the physical examination will be billed through the employee’s health insurance, with applicable co-pays reimbursed by the department.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience, Training, or Skills: Two years of experience in public or business administration.

  • Substitute Education for Experience: None.
  • Substitute Experience for Education: Experience in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a community setting, residential, correctional, group home, detention, military, or day treatment program may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Two years of this experience must have been as a supervisor in one of these settings.

Pay

Salary range: $61,343.52 - $92,015.04 annually (Pay Grade 17).
