Responsibilities

• Perform general law enforcement duties, including making criminal arrests
• Physically restrain individuals when necessary to maintain safety and order
• Support daily operations through leadership and oversight of assigned tasks
• Work rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, midnights, weekends, or special hours as required
• Use Countywide and department-specific software to complete reports and assignments

Requirements

• Must be a United States citizen
• Possess current MCOLES license OR be currently attending a Police Academy training or its equivalent (as required by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES))
• Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license
• Have no prior felony convictions
• Misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine qualifying status
• Domestic violence convictions are basis for automatically disqualifying
• Have at least corrected 20/20 vision in each eye, have normal color vision and depth perception in both eyes
• Have normal corrected hearing in each ear, per Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)

• Special Requirements: Background investigation, psychological exam

Skills

• Reasonable ability to make decisions under adverse conditions
• Reasonable ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Reasonable ability and skill in writing general reports
• Reasonable ability to provide information to the general public
• Reasonable ability and skill in maintaining prescribed items of uniform clothing and personal equipment issued by the department
• Reasonable skill in the use of firearms
• Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software
