The Shelbyville Housing Authority (SHA) is seeking a Deputy Director to oversee financial and operational activities. SHA, founded in 1955, manages 422 low-income public housing units and plays a crucial role in Shelbyville's affordable housing initiatives.
About the role
The Deputy Director serves as both the Financial Controller and Assistant to the Executive Director. Key responsibilities include advising the Executive Director, representing the authority in negotiations, supervising personnel, preparing budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Inform and advise the Executive Director regarding management and operations
- Represent the Executive Director in contract matters
- Supervise, monitor, and evaluate personnel and programs
- Establish and implement goals and objectives
- Prepare and supervise the budget and operational plan
- Monitor and analyze budget posture
- Sign purchase orders and countersign with other officials
- Approve all expenditures in accordance with board policy
- Maintain good relations with resident groups
Requirements
- Associate Degree and 5 years of experience in a management position, preferably in public housing
- Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience in a management position or housing management, or 5 years in a management position
- Experience in housing management and public organizations
- Ability to make quick, sound decisions and inspire others
- Public housing manager’s certification within one year of employment

- Valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one immediately
