Deputy Director of Investigations
About the role
The New York City Business Integrity Commission (BIC) is a regulatory and law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over the trade waste industry and the City’s public wholesale markets. Businesses seeking to operate in these industries within the City of New York must, by law, apply to BIC and be approved for the requisite license or registration. BIC’s goals include keeping industries free of organized crime and other forms of corruption, ensuring regulated businesses compete fairly, providing customers with equitable treatment, and ensuring regulated businesses do not harm public safety while conducting their affairs with honesty and integrity.
Under the direction of the Chief of Investigations, and with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative, the Deputy Director of Investigations supervises investigators and market agents assigned to enforce regulatory compliance and conduct investigations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise investigators and market agents in enforcing regulatory compliance.
- Conduct investigations related to the trade waste industry and public wholesale markets.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s education department or a recognized accrediting organization.
- Two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing code enforcement inspection, investigation, or law enforcement functions; or Special Patrolman Status.
- Must be found qualified to serve as a Special Patrolman as governed by NYC Administrative Code Section 14-106 and Chapter 13 of Title 38 of the Rules of the City of New York. This designation must be maintained for the duration of employment.
- Qualifications for Special Patrolman include:
- At least 21 years of age.
- U.S. citizen.
- Resident of the City of New York at the time of designation.
- A motor vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Qualifications
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the requirements may be considered.
- College education may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 60 semester credits, including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in police science and/or criminal justice, for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one year of experience as described in the requirements.
- To be eligible for placement to Assignment Levels II or III, individuals must have at least one year of experience in Assignment I.
