About the role
The Deputy Director of Homeless Services for Emergency Shelter (DDES) oversees four emergency shelters and a drop-in center, working closely with the Deputy Director of Homeless Services for Supportive Housing (DDSH) and the Director of Homeless Services (DHS) to manage a team of 150 employees and 12 direct service programs.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the Program Directors (PDs) of the IW Women's Center, Crabbs Branch Shelter, IW New Leaf Shelter, and IW Shelters and Drop-In Center at Progress Place.
- Ensure alignment with best practices, procedures, policies, and contract requirements from Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
- Create continuity in practice at each shelter, implementing and overseeing IW Standards and SOPs for harm reduction and low barrier shelter.
- Facilitate regular meetings with the DHS and attend leadership meetings.
- Represent Interfaith Works in relevant committees and work groups, including the ICH and CoC.
- Support Program Directors in addressing significant employee performance issues and preparing/monitoring program budgets.
- Work with the Homeless Services Operations Manager and Training Coordinator to plan and conduct mandatory trainings.
- Attend conferences and training courses relevant to emergency shelter best practices.
- Develop and clarify policies affecting Emergency Shelter personnel.
- Recruit and train new Emergency Shelter Program Directors when needed.
- Prepare and review grant applications and RFP proposals.
Qualifications
- A master's degree in a Human Services related field.
- Five or more years of experience in providing direct services to populations experiencing homelessness, behavioral health, and/or substance use disorders.
- Two or more years of experience in program management, including recruiting, developing, and supervising staff in a clinical setting.
- Administrative experience, including experience in applying for and maintaining funding.
- A commitment to upholding the dignity of anyone experiencing poverty and dedication to providing services with compassion and respect.
- A high degree of emotional intelligence and humility.
- Ability to utilize collaborative, participatory, and directive management approaches when needed.
- Excellent written and spoken communications skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
