About the role
Action Pathways is seeking an experienced and collaborative Deputy Director of Finance to support and lead the organization’s accounting and financial operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, compliance, and operational effectiveness across the agency.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
- Preparation and presentation of monthly financial statements, reports, and analyses
- Leading budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Ensuring compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant requirements
- Cooking annual audits and serving as liaison to external auditors
- Supervision, mentoring, and support of the accounting staff
- Strengthening internal controls and improving financial processes and efficiencies
- Monitoring organizational cash flow and financial health
- Managing cash flow forecasting in collaboration with Program Directors
- Partnering with Program Directors to evaluate program financial performance and operational effectiveness
- Developing and implementing financial and administrative systems that support agency operations
- Responding to inquiries from the CEO, Director of Finance, and Leadership Team regarding financial reports and special requests
- Participating in leadership and team meetings while fostering collaborative relationships across departments
- Serving in the capacity of Director of Finance in the Director’s absence
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience
- Preferred Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 5-10 years of nonprofit accounting experience, including grant management
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong financial analysis and cash flow management skills
- Experience managing audits and compliance processes
- Ability to present financial information clearly to diverse audiences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
