About the role
The Deputy Director (DSD) serves as a member of the Education Leadership team, supporting the State Director (SD) to drive excellence in the K-12 network's academic performance, operations, educational programs, and CSUSA's core educational strategies.
Responsibilities
- Supports and coaches principals and leadership in areas such as curriculum and instruction, accountability and assessment, and school improvement.
- Facilitates implementing changes in legislation regarding school improvement.
- Guides schools in tailoring instruction to meet individual needs.
- Collaborates in creating Professional Learning Communities and Learning Team Meetings/Lesson Study Groups at the school level.
- Develops the capacity of school principals to monitor and improve instruction.
- Maintains visibility in schools and community as the Deputy Director is responsible for the effective operation of the schools and the effectiveness of employees.
- Works collaboratively with other area directors.
- Monitors systemic customer service in the schools.
- Models the routine, intentional, and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
- Ensures the region's financial health by maximizing regional resources and utilizing school budgets/grants to provide the highest quality education to our students.
- Works with the SD regarding school leadership that includes hiring, transferring, promotions, and terminations/retirement.
- Assigns training, duties, and projects to various team members.
- Oversees and manages all operations and functions of the schools in his/her portfolio consistent with organizational goals.
- Models the effective implementation of resource optimization including programmatic decisions based on program evaluation or return on investment.
- Establishes expectations by setting ambitious enrollment targets for the area.
- Provides support and coaching to principals' and instructional team members on increasing enrollment and increasing the recommit rates.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates professional development necessary to support principals and teachers.
