Deputy Department Manager
Dewberry is seeking a Site/Civil Engineering Deputy Department Manager to support several large residential, mixed-use, commercial, retail, industrial, and data center projects in the Lanham, MD office.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and qualified individual with a proven track record of design and construction experience in private and public land development projects in the Washington DC Metro area and surrounding counties. This role assists the Department Manager in all aspects of project design for residential, commercial, and industrial site development projects while managing a team of civil engineers.

Responsibilities
- Perform project design duties in coordination with a team to develop detailed engineering documents for construction projects.
- Deliver projects that meet technical requirements on time and within budget.
- Coordinate project submittals, facilitate regulatory agency approvals, and obtain construction permits.
- Manage design for multiple projects, assist with marketing and proposal efforts, and handle project management duties.
- Oversee, train, and mentor junior/mid-level staff.
- Work closely with clients and agency staff, including attending public and construction meetings.
- Represent the company at events as needed.
- Support staff recruiting and retention efforts, annual performance reviews, and pursuit of new projects.
- Assist in development of proposals and project budgets.
- Contribute to business development, client management, and workload expansion for the department and office.
Requirements
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with increasing levels of project and client responsibilities.
- PE license.
- In-depth knowledge of and strong relationships with public and private sector clients in the Maryland market.
- Strong client retention and new business development skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and lead a team of professionals with diverse skill sets.
- Experience supporting corporate initiatives is a plus.
- Ability to provide technical expertise to design staff and communicate effectively with clients.

Pay
The projected salary range for this position is $135,000–$173,000 annually in the Lanham, MD office, with variations based on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
