Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Vision (20%)
- Define and champion MUSC’s clinical applications and informatics strategy
- Develop and maintain a 2–3-year roadmap with clear milestones
- Align clinical technology investments with MUSC’s system-level strategies
- Ensure strategic alignment of clinical technology investments with regulatory requirements
- Ensure strategic alignment of clinical technology investments with regulatory requirements
- Ensure strategic alignment of clinical technology investments with regulatory requirements
- Epic and Clinical Application Portfolio (20%)
- Oversee the enhancement, deployment, and lifecycle management of the Epic EMR and all associated clinical applications
- Drive Epic maturity through a targeted optimization program
- Establish integration strategies that drive standardization toward a rationalized platform environment
- Partner with Epic account teams, third-party vendors, and peer health systems
- Champion application and process improvements
- Health Informatics and Clinician Experience (15%)
- Provide strategic leadership for clinical informatics
- Build trusted relationships with clinicians
- Lead the design and governance of clinical workflows
- Champion the adoption of emerging technology
- Oversee clinical data governance
- Support research informatics
- Digital Health, Virtual Care, Patient Omni-Channel Journey, and Unified Communications (15%)
- Expand digital footprint
- Streamline unified communication platforms
- Integrate digital and clinical application strategies
- Optimize charge capture, coding accuracy, claims processing, and denial management
- Lead optimization sprints
- Governance, Optimization, and Operational Oversight (15%)
- Own and operate the Care Technology Council
- Chair or co-chair the Epic Joint Operating Committee
- Manage capacity planning
- Establish operational oversight structures
- Stakeholder Engagement, People Leadership, and Culture (15%)
- Serve as a trusted technology advisor
- Represent the CIO office in clinical governance forums
- Lead and inspire clinical teams
- Drive clinician satisfaction
Additional Job Description Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Management, or a related clinical field required. Master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Informatics, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in information systems and electronic health records, including at least 5 years of senior leadership experience implementing and managing integrated EHRs in a complex health system. Epic EMR experience required; Community Connect experience preferred. Demonstrated track record leading health informatics and clinical applications in a large, dynamic health system. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior leadership, and drive clinical system and process redesign in complex, matrixed environments. Significant experience in strategic planning, IT transformation, and application portfolio management, including managing multiple concurrent enterprise projects.
