About the role
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) serves as a critical thought partner in driving continual clinical quality improvement, building new care-delivery programs, accelerating the integration of AI into care services, and providing external thought leadership. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this role supports the Medical Affairs team.
Responsibilities
- Support the evolution of core clinical programs across the organization
- Lead the execution and quality improvement of the medication management capability and other programs across the organization
- Ensure ethical, safe, and well-designed use of AI tools to improve provider care delivery across all areas of mental health care
- Serve as a clinical representative with external stakeholders, including health plans, large employer clients, key sales / partnership conversations and complex customer topic conversations (e.g., outcomes, safety, prescribing practices)
- Act as a senior change leader on Spring Health’s most complex and strategic initiatives - ensuring clinical clarity, alignment, and adoption while reinforcing our culture and values.
Requirements
- Board-certified psychiatrist (MD/DO) with 15+ years of clinical care experience
- 10+ years of leadership experience in mental health care, leading clinics, providers, care operations, or other activities
- Strong ability to manage and influence senior leaders internally and externally
- Proven, effective cross-functional leadership at VP or senior level in a high-growth, fast-paced organization
- Strong people-leadership ability with executives, peers, direct reports, and other team members
- Systems thinker who is able to translate clinical nuance into scalable processes
- Hands-on leader willing to engage directly at all levels to solve key problems
- Strong clinical grounding, but also adaptable and able to balance clinical rigor with the pragmatism of a fast-moving environment
- High comfort with ambiguity and accountability, including being willing to be on-call for high-stakes situations
Qualifications
- 5+ years leading care activities and guiding the design and build of product within the digital mental health ecosystem
- Strong understanding and clinical experience with principles and applicability of various modalities of psychotherapy
- Strong understanding of measurement-based care and the challenges of implementation at scale across a variety of provider groups
- Familiarity with internal AI enablement tools and change management methodologies
