Duties and Responsibilities
- Installs, modifies and tests aircraft structural, composite, avionics, and/or electrical systems to ensure they are operational and meet required quality standards.
- Investigates and analyzes project requirements and operating problems and develops and recommends solutions to meet performance and safety standards.
- Troubleshoots complex system issues including mechanical, engine, fuel or electrical.
- Designs new or recommends modified parts or components and recommend updates to technical procedures that improve integration processes, quality and record maintenance.
- Performs complex aircraft repairs and rework on composite, metal or laminate assemblies, parts, components and/or structures utilizing inspection and rework instructions.
- Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Evaluates operating data on parts and components and systems to establish causes and determine remedies.
- Performs complex system modifications due to technical updates and/or customer requests including final operational testing and assurance to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Completes all required documentation in accordance with established company procedures and/or government and customer technical order requirements.
- May participate in the performance of airframe operational checks, installation of payloads and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company and customer guidelines.
- May perform launch recovery tasks of aircraft to include ground operations preflight items, ground observer responsibilities and post flight items.
- May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff and may develop and deliver training.
Qualifications
- Typically requires an Associate's degree in a related field or military/trade school equivalence and five or more years' of progressive experience in aircraft assembly and/or maintenance.
- Additional related technical experience may be substituted in lieu of the formal education.
- The position requires considerable knowledge and understanding of: Structural, composite, mechanical and electrical aircraft processes, systems and associated regulations.
- Aircraft related assembly/repair/installation processes, tools, composites, templates, fixtures, testing and measuring devices as well as judgment to determine correct process, tools, and/or material.
