Job Summary
The Distribution Center Department Supervisor is responsible for providing communication, leadership, direction, and timely information to both the associates and management team. This position maintains a high level of safety, quality and department morale. Responsible for employee work assignments.
Essential Functions
- Operational Leadership & Goal Achievement: Coordinate with managers and cross-functional teams to consistently meet or exceed productivity goals. Ensure alignment with production targets and efficiency metrics across assigned shifts and operational areas.
- Labor Planning & Resource Allocation: Effectively plan, allocate, and adjust labor resources to maximize throughput, minimize downtime, and maintain a consistent and efficient operational flow.
- Training, Coaching & Performance Management: Provide ongoing training, daily coaching, and timely recognition to ensure team members meet or exceed performance expectations. Address underperformance constructively and promptly, partnering with HR when appropriate.
- Safety Leadership: Foster a strong culture of safety with full compliance to all safety protocols. Promptly resolve safety concerns and maintain a low incident rate.
- Attendance & Staffing Reliability: Monitor and support high levels of attendance and punctuality. Address attendance issues early and effectively to ensure dependable shift coverage and workflow continuity.
- Team Engagement & Retention: Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment. Build strong team engagement to reduce turnover, enhance morale, and encourage ownership at every level.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Communicate clearly and consistently with team members, peers, and leadership to ensure strong alignment across shifts and departments. Drive transparency, accountability, and operational coordination.
- Quality & Accuracy Oversight: Uphold high standards of quality and accuracy across all processes, including inbound, outbound, and inventory handling. Continuously monitor performance and implement corrective actions where needed.
- Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Identify operational challenges proactively, escalate issues appropriately, and lead initiatives to improve safety, efficiency, quality, and team performance.
- Shift Handoffs & Documentation: Facilitate smooth shift transitions through clear, timely documentation, status updates, and alignment on shift goals, metrics, and priorities.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution center environment
- 1+ year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, safety standards, and labor management
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Proficient in using warehouse management systems (WMS), Microsoft Office, and reporting tools
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with a continuous improvement mindset
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
- Able to lift 75 pounds required
