About the role

San Diego State University’s School of Theatre, Television, and Film is accepting applications for its part-time lecturer pool in Costume Design and Technology for Stage and Screen. Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on short notice. The Fall term runs mid-August to late-December; the Spring term runs mid-January to mid-May. Summer teaching opportunities may also be available. Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewable contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses such as Costume Design, Costume Technology, Rendering, Costume History, and/or mentor student designers, based on the candidate’s strengths and specialties.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Theatre, Television, Film, New Media Production, or a related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience in costume design and/or technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in costume design-related fields.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Expertise in costume design for stage and/or screen.
  • Knowledge of Period Styles and the History of Dress, from Ancient history to the Present Day.
  • Demonstrated currency in subject matter.

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month

Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.

Schedule

  • Fall term: mid-August to late-December
  • Spring term: mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer teaching opportunities may also be available
