Clinical Care
Responsibilities:
- Practice 90% of time focusing on direct patient care in hepatology and gastroenterology.
- Concentrate on diagnosis, monitoring, management, and endoscopic procedures for patients with liver-related issues.
- Work 7 half-day sessions per week, including 5 outpatient clinic half-days and 2 endoscopy half-days.
- Perform 2 half-day endoscopy or outpatient clinic sessions at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, during 10 to 12 weeks of inpatient hepatology service.
- Optionally, dedicate 20% effort at University Hospital, Newark, on liver transplant services, including 5 full weeks of inpatient care, one half-day clinic per month, and weekly Zoom or in-person participation in the liver transplantation conference.
- Establish and maintain physician office hours to be accessible for new consults and follow-up patients.
- Be accountable for overall care of patients referred or admitted under your name.
- Provide complete and timely consults as requested by other specialists.
- Communicate clearly about diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow-up to patients, family members, and other healthcare team members.
- Provide GI night and weekend on-call coverage during inpatient service, estimated at 2 nights per Monday-Thursday weekdays and 50% of weekends.
- Attend monthly meetings to review data, outcomes, protocols, policies, procedures, and staffing.
- Participate in or lead gastroenterology, endoscopy, and internal medicine societies, and contribute to CME programs.
- Engage in academic activities within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division and the Department of Medicine.
Academic Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and teach fellows, residents, and medical students.
- Engage in clinical or translational research or quality improvement projects, preferably related to liver diseases.
- Pursue leadership roles in medical societies and associations, particularly in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and internal medicine.
- Develop and participate in CME programs, especially those related to gastrointestinal and biliary malignancies, advanced endoscopy, or other clinical areas of expertise.
- Participate in academic activities within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division and the Department of Medicine, including Grand Rounds, M&M Conferences, liver masses/tumor board meetings, and fellowship recruitment sessions.
- Engage in relevant Department of Medicine and Medical School committees.
