About the role
The Department of Anesthesiology at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a board eligible/board certified anesthesiologist to join our Emory University team and serve as the Vice Chair of Professional Development.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Division Chiefs on their leadership of the Division and their professional development of the faculty in their division.
- Aid and advise the Chair on the best and most innovative ways to help physicians, faculty and staff to achieve their professional goals.
- Collaborate with the Division Chiefs, the Vice Chairs of Clinical Operations in the hiring process to ensure that the department is staffed with physicians and anesthetists dedicated to excellence in clinical practice.
- Be an active member of the Department Appointments and Promotions Committee.
- Lead the department Professional Development Committee.
- Assist faculty members in understanding the promotions process and CV review when appropriate.
- Advise faculty on the creation of their promotion packet.
- Collaborate with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs to ensure that faculty are engaged in professional growth and development in clinical anesthesia.
- Help to educate Division Chiefs and other Vice Chairs as appropriate on the performance of Career Conference Performance Reviews (CCPR) each year.
- This individual will also supervise faculty Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and CPP reviews along with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs.
- Work with the Vice Chair for Operations on appropriate distribution of nonclinical time based on academic productivity and service needs.
Qualifications
- M.D., D.O., or foreign equivalent.
- Eligible to apply for a medical license in the state of Georgia.
- American Board of Anesthesiology board certified/eligible.
- The VC for Professional Development will have achieved the rank of Associate Professor or higher when they assume the role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting faculty development and promotion processes, collaborating with departmental leadership on recruitment and professional growth initiatives, and participating in performance evaluation and committee activities.
Pay
Time Allocation: The Vice Chair for Professional Development will receive 20% protected nonclinical time to fulfill the requirements of the post at the discretion of the Chair.
