Department of American Indian Studies Lecturer Pool 2026-2027
About the Role
The Department of American Indian Studies in the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on very short notice.
Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewed contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Applications remain active in the pool for the academic year in which they are submitted.
- Fall term: mid-August to late December
- Spring term: mid-January to mid-May
- Summer session opportunities may also be available
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in American Indian Studies or related field
- University-level teaching experience
- Demonstrated currency in subject matter

Pay
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must disclose any final administrative or judicial decision issued within the last seven years determining that they committed sexual harassment, pursuant to Education Code 89521. Disclosures will be reviewed by the San Diego State University Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
Finalists for the position must authorize a background check, including a criminal records check, as a condition of employment. The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
