DEPARTMENT MANAGER
About the role
As a Department Manager at Primark, you’ll own a department and focus on maximizing its sales, inventory, and standards. You’ll have the power to impact the business daily by managing inventory, moving product in accordance with customer demand, reviewing and managing planograms and period layouts, and being commercially aware—ordering merchandise daily to drive sales. You’ll monitor the local market to maintain a competitive advantage in price, product, and shopping experience, use data to understand your department’s performance, and manage stock file accuracy. As the leader of your department, you’ll hire, train, coach, and motivate a team of Sales Associates and Team Leaders to deliver an exceptional shopping experience and a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage inventory and move product in accordance with customer demand
- Review and manage planograms and period layouts
- Order merchandise daily based on trends and demand to drive sales
- Maintain competitive advantage in price, product, and shopping experience by monitoring the local market
- Use data to understand department performance and meet targets
- Manage stock file accuracy for the department
- Hire, train, coach, and motivate a team of Sales Associates and Team Leaders
- Ensure the department delivers an exceptional shopping experience for every customer and a positive work environment for every colleague
Requirements
- At least 2 years of retail leadership experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong commercial acumen
- Nimble and adaptable, able to flex plans and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to relate to customer needs
- Leadership experience that inspires and motivates teams to deliver excellent store standards and customer service
- Resilience with a proven ability to lead a team and give constructive feedback
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of the local market, key competitors, and the use of relevant systems and tools to improve option control and drive sales
- Good planning and organizational skills, prioritizing and working within agreed timescales
- Experience supporting store management with the protection of people, property, and premises by securing cash, stock, and property
- Keyholder responsibility including availability for emergency call-outs
- Ability to effectively manage difficult situations and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, orally and in writing, with managers, supervisors, and hourly colleagues in English to provide instruction, coaching, corrective action, safety instructions, and lead teams as a manager daily and in emergencies
- Ability to provide amazing customer service in English, including oral communication with customers and monitoring the performance of English-speaking colleagues whose job duties require customer interaction

Pay
The pay range for this role is $62,400–$69,160. The base pay rate offered will account for internal equity and may vary depending on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other factors.
For promotional opportunities, there is a 10% additional responsibility allowance for the duration of the Interim Assignment. For lateral opportunities, there is no change to the existing pay rate.
