About the role

The Department Chairperson provides academic leadership to the Aviation Department and serves as an integral member of the College and Campus administrative team. This position facilitates learning, quality teaching, scholarships and services. This position also provides support and advice in the collective bargaining process and ensures adherence to relevant areas of any collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and/or revision of curricula consistent with current research and industry needs and implements instructional programs
  • Makes sure the number of students enrolled, retained, graduated, and placed in jobs goes up; and solves student problems
  • Carries out student-centered instructional programs in classrooms and labs
  • Brings in more students through marketing programs and recruiting strategies
  • Plans and assigns courses and faculty members to help students succeed
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates staff
  • Ensures the proper use of money and resources in the department
  • Ensures that the department follows rules set by SACS accreditation and FAA
  • Manages and runs different aviation locations, making sure everything works well and is of high quality
  • Attends college and campus events, industry conferences, and public forums, talking about the department's achievements and goals
  • Integrates technology in aviation programs, helping teachers learn and make better lessons
  • Creates plans and checks how well programs are working to match college goals and industry standards
  • Fosters a friendly workplace, leading a group of people from different backgrounds and organizing team-building and professional development activities
  • Helps develop and carry out college policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Serves on college and campus committees

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a related field or related discipline and five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in aviation, higher education, teaching and/or related experience or a combination of administrative, teaching or private sector experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
