Depack Chemist

About the role

As a Depack Chemist at Arcwood Environmental, you will assist in coordinating and ensuring the proper disposal of waste materials for our customers. This role involves overseeing tasks such as collection, segregation, processing, and supporting documentation of waste activity while prioritizing health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Segregate chemicals by Department of Transportation (DOT) hazard class and pack/unpack compatible chemicals into appropriate containers for treatment or transport; complete all necessary documentation per job.
• Complete database logs and other documentation for tracking and billing purposes.
• Review chemical compatibility per inventory sheets prior to shipment of labpack containers.
• Answer customer questions daily via phone or email.
• Utilize introductory knowledge of hazardous chemicals, hazardous waste generation, management practices, and shipping-related procedures.
• Handle hazardous materials using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection, and a respirator.
• Take on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (required); science-related discipline (preferred).
• 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (preferred).
• In lieu of a degree, 4+ years of related environmental waste experience (required).
• Prior lab packing experience (preferred).
