About the role

Provide professional chairside dental procedures, consistent with community standards, to an adult in-custody population at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited and comprehensive oral evaluations and treatment planning
• Conduct radiology, preventative dentistry, and periodontal exams and treatment (excluding periodontal surgery)
• Perform restorative dentistry, including simple and surgical extractions (e.g., flap procedures with suture placement)
• Provide fixed and removable prosthodontics
• Prescribe appropriate medications
• Adhere to established time frames for procedures

Requirements

• Current, unencumbered Dentist’s license issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry at the time of appointment
• No previous discipline with the Oregon Board of Dentistry or any other state dental boards (preferred)
• Proficiency in the requested skills listed below

Desired Attributes

• Previous service within an oral and maxillofacial internship program and/or extensive experience performing oral surgery procedures (excluding complicated third molar impactions)
• Previous experience working as a dentist in corrections
• Excellent communication skills with patients and staff
• Solid work ethic with the ability to manage caseloads independently

Working Conditions

• Located inside Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville
• Adults in custody may become physically and verbally abusive; assaults and disturbances may occur
• Contact with adults in custody during treatment, consultation, or supervision may take place out of visual range of security staff
• Vigilance and awareness required to maintain a non-threatening environment
• Exposure to chemicals, communicable diseases, radiation, and other hazards inherent in a healthcare and correctional setting

Pay

Salary range: $20,224 – $23,238 for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS-qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range reflecting an additional 6.95%.

Requirements for Employment

• Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility
• Must comply with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), which prohibits hiring individuals with a history of sexual abuse in confinement settings
• Must complete an I-9 within three days of hire to confirm authorization to work in the United States
