Dentist - Part Time (16 hours per week)

Part-time position (16 hours per week) at the Montgomery County Detention Facility in Montgomery, AL. Work alongside correctional officers and medical professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals in a secure, controlled environment.

This unique position allows you to make a difference in a diverse patient population with complex medical and dental needs. You will ensure quality dental care while protecting the rights, dignity, and health of patients in a correctional setting.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, treat, and provide preventative dental care for patients
• Create treatment plans and perform dental procedures, including extractions and restorations
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient dental records
• Perform dental assessments, radiographic exams, and treatments, including emergency oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and periodontal therapy within the scope of general dentistry
• Formulate working diagnoses, develop and implement treatment plans, and evaluate/modify therapeutic regimens to promote positive patient outcomes
• Evaluate patients returning from offsite dental visits
• Participate in training and orientation of healthcare staff
• Provide oral hygiene education and discharge instructions to patients
• Supervise and coach dental assistants
• Ensure sterilization and disinfection of equipment
• Collaborate with other medical professionals to address patients’ oral health needs

Requirements

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
• Valid dental license in the state where the facility is located
• Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
• Current DEA registration
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Technical proficiency in providing a full range of dental services
• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information
• Adherence to a Code of Conduct and compliance with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand for long periods
• Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
• Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
• Perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift
