About the role
The General Practice Dental Officer (Staff) serves as a practicing Dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures
- Proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services
- Makes oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity
- Diagnoses pathological or irregular oral conditions
- Administers local anesthesia
- Performs routine and complex restoration of teeth
- Performs simple and complex extractions of teeth
- Performs alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures
- Performs prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work
- Performs routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth
- Performs routine and surgical periodontal procedures

Qualifications
Dentist Basic Requirements:
- A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
- Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Physical Requirements
- Reaching above shoulder;
- Use of fingers;
- Both hands required;
- Walking (2 hours) and Standing (2-4 hours);
- Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously;
- Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4;
- Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other;
- Both eyes required;
- Depth Perception;
- Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors;
- Hearing (aid may be permitted);
- Hearing without aid.
Environmental Factors
- Excessive noise,
- Dust,
- Fumes, smoke, or gases,
- Solvents (degreasing agents),
- Vibration,
- Working alone.
