Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Dentists are charged with oral assessment and provision of oral healthcare services and patient education.

Dentists provide clinical leadership and are responsible for overseeing the conduct and performance of designated ancillary staff performing certain delegated procedures.

Standards of Care

Standards of care are consistent with those established by the dental community locally and nationally, by the American Dental Association, by the American Association of Dental Schools, by the American Dental Hygienists Association, by the American Association of Hospital Dentists, by the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, by the American Academy of Periodontics, by the American Board of Endodontics, by the American College of Prosthodontists, by the Board of Dentistry of the Department of Commerce of the State of Michigan, and by the Office of Dentistry of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Licenses and Privileges

All staff dentists are required to maintain current BLS, dental, pharmacy, and dental specialty licenses, and maintain current privileges.

Dentists are required to complete continuing education to maintain licensure and meet the compulsory education requirements of Ann Arbor VA Medical Center.

Practice Range

All dentists are required to practice only within the range of their current privileges and meet the community standards of care.

Evaluation and Improvement

Both Focused Professional Practice Evaluation and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation and Peer Review are utilized to assess competency of dentists.

All dentists are required to follow national and local policies.

Dentists and residents actively participate in performance improvement activities.
