About the Program
Missouri Big Smiles is a school-based mobile dental practice that provides dental care to underserved children. Founded almost two decades ago by two dentists who saw a need for accessible dental care, Big Smiles brings dental services directly to schools, using state-of-the-art portable equipment.
The program offers preventative and restorative care to approximately 500,000 children per year, addressing issues like tooth decay, which is the most common preventable disease among children. Each year, over 51 million school hours are lost due to oral health-related issues.
Big Smiles partners with state-licensed dentists, hygienists, and assistants to provide care in schools or on-site mobile facilities. The program is currently active in 20 states and has strategic partnerships with over 8,000 school districts, including 21 of the 25 largest districts in the country.
With a workday ending with the school day and no nights or weekends, the program is ideal for dentists looking to supplement their income, working parents, recent graduates, those nearing retirement, and anyone wanting to make a difference in the dental field.
