About the role
The primary purpose of this position is to manage patient flow and coordinate appointments, ensuring the office operates smoothly and efficiently. This position acts as a key liaison between patients and the clinical staff, handling communications and administrative tasks that allow the dental team to focus on providing care. Position will include support in preparing treatment areas and assisting with clinical patient care when needed.
Responsibilities
- Scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments, ensuring that the dentist’s time is utilized efficiently.
- Identifies no-shows and cancellations and reschedules patients as appropriate for follow-up.
- Responsible for verifying dental coverage and authorizations for treatment/services.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, including entering patient information into the practice management software and ensuring that health histories and insurance details are correctly recorded.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in handling patient information and interactions.
- Scan documents and correspondence into patient charts.
- Set up treatment rooms for procedures.
- Escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
- Show care and concern to help patients feel comfortable.
- Keep dental units ready, stocked, and clean.
- Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures.
- Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations.
- Sterilize instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations.
- Keep trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers organized. Ensure that treatment rooms are always stocked.
- Help in other areas of the office when necessary, including when the Dental Assistant is not available.
- Assist the dentist in providing dental treatment for all eligible patients by passing instruments, operating oral evacuation equipment, retractors, air, and water sprays.
- Take radiographs at the direction of the dentist using the direct digital Dexis Imaging System.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved dental assistant course or graduation from high school and one year of experience as a dental assistant and/or office receptionist in a Dental Office.
- Dentrix and Dexis training (a plus).
- Valid CPR certification.
- Annual OSHA and medical emergency training.
- X-Ray Certification.
