Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors with compassion and professionalism, creating a welcoming environment.
- Answer and direct incoming telephone calls courteously, addressing patient questions and ensuring timely communication.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations while providing accurate information and assistance.
- Schedule appointments, prepare patient charts, verify demographic and insurance information, and help maintain an efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Collect and verify insurance and third-party payer information, accurately record charges, and process patient billing as indicated on the encounter form.
- Explain the Sliding Fee Scale program to eligible patients and ensure appropriate documentation and adjustments are completed.
- Collect, process, and accurately reconcile patient payments while following established cash handling procedures.
- Collect and maintain patient registration and utilization data to support Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively with providers and fellow team members to ensure exceptional patient care and clinic efficiency.
- Demonstrate initiative by completing assigned tasks independently, identifying opportunities to assist patients and coworkers, and contributing to the overall success of the clinic.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude and provide outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, and coworkers at all times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous customer service experience required; healthcare or medical office experience preferred.
- Experience handling cash and processing patient payments accurately REQUIRED.
- Ability to use computers, electronic medical records, and standard office equipment, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced environment.
