Dental Outreach Dentist

Essential Duties

• Perform exams, operative dentistry, and basic extractions on a mobile dental unit.
• Follow best practices for patient management, such as:
• Review patient medical history at every visit.
• Appropriately record dental conditions and oral health pathology during exams.
• Establish and document treatment plans as needed.
• Report findings and recommendations to parents, guardians, and school nurses as needed.
• Ensure that the necessary consents have been obtained before performing treatment.
• Identify urgent conditions and manage them appropriately.
• Make appropriate referrals to other dental clinics, dental specialists, or medical providers as needed.
• Maintain appropriate documentation in the electronic dental record.
• Meet clinical standards of practice as described in the Quality Assurance Program.
• Participate in all appropriate clinic-wide quality assurance program initiatives, including but not limited to chart audits, clinical quality measures, and patient satisfaction metrics.
• Integrate patient education into dental appointments:
• Utilize dental assistants or other dental staff for patient education.
• Promote healthy oral hygiene and dietary practices with pediatric patients.
• Give verbal advice and written handouts as needed.

Skills Required

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.
• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and prioritize workload.
• Ability to anticipate and react calmly in an emergency is a must.
• Ability to follow written policies and procedures.
• Ability to work independently and use good judgment.

Dental Outreach Skills Required

• Education and Experience:
• Current Kansas Dentist License.
• 1-3 years of experience preferred.
• Prior experience with pediatric population preferred.
• License and Certifications:
• Current KS driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance required.
• Must have and maintain CPR certification.
• Other Requirements:
• Willingness to educate patients and the community in health maintenance and the role of healthcare team.
• Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
