Essential Duties
- Perform exams, operative dentistry, and basic extractions on a mobile dental unit.
- Follow best practices for patient management, such as:
- Review patient medical history at every visit.
- Appropriately record dental conditions and oral health pathology during exams.
- Establish and document treatment plans as needed.
- Report findings and recommendations to parents, guardians, and school nurses as needed.
- Ensure that the necessary consents have been obtained before performing treatment.
- Identify urgent conditions and manage them appropriately.
- Make appropriate referrals to other dental clinics, dental specialists, or medical providers as needed.
- Maintain appropriate documentation in the electronic dental record.
- Meet clinical standards of practice as described in the Quality Assurance Program.
- Participate in all appropriate clinic-wide quality assurance program initiatives, including but not limited to chart audits, clinical quality measures, and patient satisfaction metrics.
- Integrate patient education into dental appointments:
- Utilize dental assistants or other dental staff for patient education.
- Promote healthy oral hygiene and dietary practices with pediatric patients.
- Give verbal advice and written handouts as needed.
Skills Required
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and prioritize workload.
- Ability to anticipate and react calmly in an emergency is a must.
- Ability to follow written policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and use good judgment.
Dental Outreach Skills Required
- Education and Experience:
- Current Kansas Dentist License.
- 1-3 years of experience preferred.
- Prior experience with pediatric population preferred.
- License and Certifications:
- Current KS driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance required.
- Must have and maintain CPR certification.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to educate patients and the community in health maintenance and the role of healthcare team.
- Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
