Dental Hygienist

About the role

This vacancy may be used to fill multiple positions. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Experience at the next lower grade level demonstrating clinical competencies
• Assignment: Serve as developmental level 2, 3, 5 dental hygienists
• Assignments: Provide direct patient care, receive guidance from higher-level or supervisory staff members for only the most complex patients, and require only general supervision from a dentist
• Duties: Perform specialized cleanings with/without anesthetics, administer topical/local anesthesia and subgingival antibiotics, follow infection control protocols for cleaning, conduct general oral exams, perform radiographs on patients, interpret diagnostic X-rays, maintain dental records, manage appointment system, perform administrative duties using automated systems, and work schedule: M-F 7:30am - 4:00pm

Requirements

• Education: Must have an Associate degree or higher from an accredited dental hygiene program
• Licensure/Certification: Full and unrestricted license to practice as a dental hygienist in the United States or the District of Columbia, and certification as a radiographer if required by 42 C.F.R. Part 75
• Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English

• Knowledge: Knowledge of oral pathology, medical diseases, radiographic exposure techniques
• Skills: Practical knowledge of medical diseases, radiographic procedures, anatomy and physiology, joint commission, occupational safety and health administration (OSHA), and related regulations and guidelines
• Knowledge: Knowledge of state-of-the-art preventive dentistry measures, anatomy and physiology, joint commission, occupational safety and health administration (OSHA), and related regulations and guidelines
• Skills: Skill in providing individual and group oral health care instructions, skill in detecting plaque and calculus, skill in educating patients and caregivers, skill in assessing the patient's medical and dental condition, skill in managing stable medically compromised patients, skill in instrument sharpening, skill in inter-service communication, and skill in interpreting diagnostic X-rays
