About the role
Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking a compassionate and patient-focused Dental Hygienist to join their team. This position plays a crucial role in helping patients understand the connection between oral health and overall wellness while expanding access to high-quality dental care.
Responsibilities
- Perform oral health assessments and review patient medical and dental histories
- Conduct oral cancer screenings and head and neck examinations
- Complete dental charting and obtain patient vital signs, including blood pressure and pulse
- Take and process dental radiographs in accordance with applicable clinical and safety standards
- Remove calculus, plaque, and other hard and soft deposits from tooth surfaces
- Perform preventive dental procedures, including fluoride treatments and the application of sealants
- Educate patients regarding brushing, flossing, nutrition, and other oral hygiene practices
- Counsel patients on the relationship between nutrition, oral health, and overall wellness
- Identify signs of periodontal disease, tooth decay, and other oral health concerns
- Communicate clinical findings and patient concerns to the treating dentist
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely electronic health record documentation
- Follow infection-control, sterilization, safety, and clinical-quality standards
- Establish positive and professional relationships with patients, families, and coworkers
- Aid in coordinating dental equipment maintenance and service requests
- Support a welcoming, respectful, and patient-centered dental environment
- Travel to other Tampa Family Health Centers locations when coverage is needed
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Florida Dental Hygienist license
- Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification
- Previous dental hygiene experience preferred but not required
- Newly licensed Dental Hygienists are encouraged to apply
- Knowledge of preventive dental care, periodontal health, radiography, and oral hygiene education
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and compassionately with patients and coworkers
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate clinical documentation
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, clinical procedures, and applicable Florida dental regulations
- Commitment to maintaining patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and safety
- Ability to provide respectful and culturally responsive care to patients from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds
- Willingness to travel between TFHC locations when needed
