Dental Hygienist

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease.
• Perform oral prophylaxis instruction for proper home care techniques for oral hygiene.
• Topical fluoride treatment screening and evaluation of patients regarding caries detection, periodontal pathology and medical history.
• Exposing, processing, and mounting of radiographs.
• Supra and subgingival scaling and curettage.
• Root planning.
• Perform procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques.
• Provide gross debridement in treatment of acute periodontal conditions.
• Initiate and maintain the dental prevention and dental education program.
• Afford assistance to dental assistants and other staff.

• Effectively communicates with staff, patients and external contacts.
• Able to evaluate patient’s response to care through observation.
• Professionally handles patient complaints.
• Acts a team member with dental staff and medical staff within the Health Center.
• Demonstrates an ability to resolve interpersonal and professional conflicts appropriately.
• Participates in staff meetings, trainings and committees.
• Keeps all matters related to the organization confidential in compliance with confidentiality policy.
• Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
• Proficiency with computers, including MSWord, Outlook and Excel.

Required Knowledge, Experience Or Licensure/Registration

• Current State of Ohio Dental Hygiene License.
• Two or four-year college degree from a college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
