Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease.
- Perform oral prophylaxis instruction for proper home care techniques for oral hygiene.
- Topical fluoride treatment screening and evaluation of patients regarding caries detection, periodontal pathology and medical history.
- Exposing, processing, and mounting of radiographs.
- Supra and subgingival scaling and curettage.
- Root planning.
- Perform procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques.
- Provide gross debridement in treatment of acute periodontal conditions.
- Initiate and maintain the dental prevention and dental education program.
- Afford assistance to dental assistants and other staff.
Required Skills Or Abilities
- Effectively communicates with staff, patients and external contacts.
- Able to evaluate patient’s response to care through observation.
- Professionally handles patient complaints.
- Acts a team member with dental staff and medical staff within the Health Center.
- Demonstrates an ability to resolve interpersonal and professional conflicts appropriately.
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings and committees.
- Keeps all matters related to the organization confidential in compliance with confidentiality policy.
- Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
- Proficiency with computers, including MSWord, Outlook and Excel.
Required Knowledge, Experience Or Licensure/Registration
- Current State of Ohio Dental Hygiene License.
- Two or four-year college degree from a college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
