Dental Hygiene Program Director/Faculty-Peosta Campus

Duties And Responsibilities

• Remain current with methods and developments in the content area.
• Possess the expertise to deliver courses in multiple formats; face-to-face, online, hybrid.
• Utilize current technologies to support teaching.
• Complete delegated teaching assignment in accordance with guidelines for teaching format.
• Meet all class, office and college commitments.
• Participate in the development of a cohesive general education program and/or career and technical program.
  • Establish a representative program advisory board and respond to recommendations.
  • Ensure an ongoing process of curriculum evaluation.
  • Network with adjunct and concurrent faculty to ensure consistency in curriculum through department meetings, peer mentoring visits, discipline meetings etc.
• Evidence a commitment to the assessment of student learning.
  • Follow assessment activity timeline/deadlines.
  • Incorporate assessment activities in the instructional content.
  • Facilitate collaboration among all faculty (full-time, adjunct, and concurrent) teaching in the program/course to ensure course content and embedded assessments are consistent.
• Evidence a commitment to ongoing program evaluation.
  • Annual review of Annual Key Performance Indicator Review document.
  • Compile Comprehensive Program Review packets.
  • Compile accreditation packets.
  • Review of annual Common Learning Outcomes dashboards.
• Maintain a classroom environment that supports retention and completion.
  • Utilize instructional methods that require student engagement and collaboration.
  • Provide feedback, assessments and grades according to prescribed guidelines.
  • Ensure the classroom environment provides respect for diversity and individual viewpoints.
  • Emphasize to all classes the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
  • Provide persistent outreach to students not attending class or meeting class requirements.
  • Initiate referrals for identified at-risk student behaviors.
• Assist in the placement and success of students.
  • Incorporate authentic learning into courses and programs.
  • Engage with students in co-curricular activities.
  • Reinforce career pathway leading to workforce placement and/or transfer upon graduation.

  Scholarship

  • Maintain credentials and expertise in accordance with College guidelines and accreditation standards.
    • Meet requirements of Quality Faculty Plan.
    • Remain current with methods and developments in the content area.
    • Maintain technical competencies related to area of instruction.
    • Incorporate current technology practices into the classroom.

  Service

  • Comply with State and Federal Guidelines.
    • Record daily student attendance in the learning management system.
    • Submit accurate grades in accordance with prescribed guideline.
    • Provide accommodations as identified by Disability Services.
    • Maintain student privacy in accordance with professional and/or legal standards.
  • Participate in program orientations, promotion and recruiting/enrollment events.
    • Recruit program students.
    • Engage with pre-program students.
    • Participate in on-campus orientation and promotional events.
    • Participate in off-campus job fairs, high school and/or community events.
  • Contribute as a member of the College community.
    • Complete student advising, registration and/or mentoring activities as assigned.
    • Engage with students using different modalities when off campus.
    • Attend and participate in all faculty meetings.
    • Attend and participate in all program advisory meetings.
    • Attend and participate in all statewide workgroups relevant to assigned programs.
    • Serve on at least one college committee or student organization annually.
    • Carry out assigned responsibilities in alignment with the College conduct code.
    • Maintain accountability, efficiency, and proactive utilization of program and college resources.

  Qualifications

  • A registered dental hygienist who is a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited program OR a dentist who is a graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited program and has a clear understanding of dental hygiene education and experience working with dental hygienists.
  • Meet certification, registration or licensure required to practice in the state of Iowa or have the ability to obtain such.
  • A masters degree or higher.
  • A minimum of three full time or five part time years (6,000 hours) of recent experience as a dental hygienist or a dentist.
  • Highly competent in the dental hygiene discipline.
  • Able to instruct, assess, and evaluate dental hygiene student learning and performance following CODA standards.
  • Able to appropriately and sufficiently relate well to students, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Meet the instructor credentialing requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation and Northeast Iowa Community College’s Quality Faculty Plan (QFP).
  • Previous formal teaching experience is preferred.
  • Must meet minimum experience and education requirements as outlined by the Iowa Code sections 260C.47 and 260C.48 and the Northeast Iowa Community College Quality Faculty Plan.

  • Must possess an Iowa driver’s license.
