Dental Billing Specialist

About the role

The dental biller plays a crucial role in the smooth and efficient operation of the dental billing department. They are responsible for collecting, posting, and managing account payments, submitting claims, and following up with insurance companies. Additionally, they create various reports for management and assist with the credentialing of dental providers.

Responsibilities

• Self-manage time and be self-motivated
• Track and follow-up with insurance claims
• Mentor and advise office managers and operations teams on resolving issues and answering questions about patient accounts
• Analyze and research insurance aging for unpaid claims
• Post and process payments from insurance carriers
• Submit claims and follow up with insurance companies
• Create various internal reports for upper management
• Research and identify special circumstances affecting delayed payment on accounts, including appeals of denied claims
• Absorb and troubleshoot account issues for patients
• Use various methods to trace outstanding claim payments
• Assist with setting up payment plans for patients

Requirements

• Sit, stand, and walk for long periods
• Read and understand the English language
• Maintain confidentiality of records and communicate with all levels of personnel
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management staff, and contacts outside the organization
• Work with multiple changing priorities

• Show excellent attention to detail
• Have 1 year’s full-time billing experience or dental experience preferred

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• BLS/OSHA/HIPAA certification
