Dental Assistant I
About the role
Assists faculty, residents, and dental students chairside in patient care. Takes and develops X-rays, instructs on preventative dental techniques, and performs oral hygiene with patients. Maintains dental records in axiUm. Maintains operatories, stock mobiles, and ensures regular maintenance of clinical equipment. Assists in organizing and controlling the use of clinic supplies and medications. Assists in the sterilization of instruments. Participates in student education of auxiliary utilization. Learns new methods through in-service training (e.g., maintains current CPR certification).

Requirements
- High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
Qualifications
- High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Preferred: Ability to prepare, sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and pay close attention to details
- Ability to instruct patients in preventive dental techniques
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Knowledge of dental terminology
- Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices
