FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country, operating more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including primary care, behavioral health, dental, vision, physical rehabilitation, substance use treatment, and specialty services. We serve over 227,000 patients annually, with 91% being low-income and 29% uninsured.

Responsibilities

• Assist both dentist and hygienist chairside as needed.
• Provide accurate translation of treatment information between patients and providers.
• Chart provider diagnoses and assist the front office with charts, recalls, billing, x-rays, and filing.
• Complete all required documentation accurately, thoroughly, and in compliance with department standards and insurance requirements.
• Maintain instruments and equipment (x-ray, hand pieces, vacuum system), sterilization, tray set-ups, and unit stocking to ensure efficiency and quality care.
• Take x-rays of good diagnostic quality, acceptable to providers and third-party payers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
• Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assistant program or equivalent on-the-job training.
• Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS) certification.
• Dental x-ray certificate.
• California Dental Board Dental Practice Act and Infection Control certifications required within 1 year of employment.
• At least 1 year of experience as a dental assistant preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English required.

Driver Requirements

• Active Class C California driver’s license.
• Proof of liability insurance at $100,000 on the vehicle used.
• No more than 2 points on driving record in the past 12 months.
• No suspensions in the last 2 years for moving violations.
• No DUI, reckless, or felony driving convictions within the last 5 years.
• No license revocation in the last 7 years.

Pay

$26.00 - $30.12 per hour.
