About the role
Swissport is seeking a Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of airport support vehicles and equipment that keep aircraft, passengers, and cargo moving safely and efficiently. No aviation experience is required—we provide training on airport-specific equipment and systems.
Responsibilities
- Operate and drive all types of ground service equipment—motorized and non-motorized.
- Perform and show competence in preventive maintenance per established schedules on all ground support equipment.
- Provide trouble-shooting and diagnostic assessment of ground support equipment as required.
- Demonstrate hydraulic knowledge or basics; must be willing to learn hydraulic systems.
- Complete airport deicing training; reporting to work during snow, ice, and cold weather is required.
- Work overtime during weather emergencies.
- Work outside in all weather conditions year-round.
- Remove malfunctioning ground support equipment from service and ensure it is not returned until accurately diagnosed and repaired.
- Respond to emergency service calls and accidents involving ground support equipment.
- Complete all maintenance/repair documentation consistent with carrier, station, airport authority, municipal, state, federal, and Swissport requirements.
- Comply with all federal, provincial, municipal, airport authority, and carrier security requirements.
- Retain a motor vehicle driver’s license for both airside and non-airside in good standing at all times.
- Follow all safety guidelines set out by WCB, EPA, WHMIS, and Swissport management.
- Keep the GSE shop and its equipment clean and serviceable; report all deficiencies to management.
- Fuel equipment as necessary with full regard for safety and environmental requirements.
- Liaise with Ramp management, customers, and staff in a professional manner when needed.
- Work as a self-starter and report to shop leads daily.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Trade school training and/or a mechanical background preferred.
- Good oral and verbal communication skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Willingness to clean and maintain a safe workshop.
- Willingness to travel when necessary for training or to assist other Swissport stations with GSE needs.

Pay
The expected pay range is $25.00–$33.00 per hour.
