About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Experienced Demolition Management Professional to support our Novi, Michigan office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team, collaborating with other business lines across the organization to meet our clients’ objectives and solve their challenges.
Responsibilities
- Takes part in providing local technical leadership for the management and oversight of complex demolition projects with multiple subcontractors and discipline professionals.
- Provides local planning and leadership for the execution of regulated material removal, decommissioning and demolition, and waste management on behalf of project clients.
- Develops schedules and objectives for the project team, being a champion for the project’s health, safety, environmental, and quality goals as well as the project schedule.
- Proactively identifies task and technical issues and takes actions to mitigate risk.
- Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
- Strongly represents WSP’s culture through positive and frequent communication and collaboration with the project team, including the client, other professionals, and subcontractors.
- Sets out opportunities to share knowledge with and mentor junior staff, imparting technical skills to others.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, construction management, or a closely related discipline.
- 3+ years of demolition oversight experience, including regulated materials (e.g., asbestos-containing materials, PCB-containing materials, universal waste) abatement, waste management, and dismantling via mechanical means and methods of commercial and/or industrial facilities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications, permit requirements, test data, schedules and budgets.
- Familiar with relevant environmental and construction laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively, professionally, and succinctly to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Ability to perform physical activities required such as squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain, as may be required on site visits.
- Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Prioritizes workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel may be periodically required depending on project-specific requirements (approximately 10-15%).
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or graduate certifications in a closely-related discipline.
- Licensure as a Michigan Asbestos Building Inspector, or ability to obtain licensure.
- A member of and/or actively participating in local professional practice organizations.
