About the role
The Activity Coordinator at Empath Health's Dementia Adult Day Center in Ocala, FL, plays a crucial role in assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic activities for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia disorders.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing recreational assessments
- Contribute to individualized care plans with measurable goals
- Plan and lead structured, multi-sensory activities (art, music, reminiscence, movement, sensory stimulation)
- Ensure consistent delivery of therapeutic programming in compliance with regulatory standards
- Develop and publish a monthly activity calendar aligned with participant needs and seasonal themes
- Maintain program supplies, inventory, and a clean, organized environment
- Train and support staff and volunteers on dementia care techniques and engagement strategies
- Accurately document participation, engagement, and progress in the EMR/EHR
- Plan and host special events, family open houses, and provide caregiver education and resources
- Assist with ADLs, personal care, mobility, and nutrition monitoring using safe techniques
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Gerontology, or a closely related health and human services field is highly preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of documented experience establishing and coordinating social or recreational programs for adult populations within the past five (5) years—with at least one (1) full year spent delivering specialized activities within a healthcare or memory care environment

- Experience with non-pharmacological interventions to manage behavioral expressions
- Knowledge of Florida regulatory standards for specialized adult day care operations
