About the role

A Delivery Assistant supports the Delivery Driver in moving products from the main warehouse to delivery sites while maintaining safety and professionalism. The role involves daily interaction with customers, drivers, dispatchers, receivers, and load-builders, reporting to the General Manager, Production Manager, or Shop Foreman depending on location.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently load and unload building materials from commercial motor vehicles.
  • Legally and safely travel to destinations via public and private roads.
  • Complete mileage and fuel usage reports.
  • Commit to on-time and in-full deliveries.
  • Follow delivery procedures, including taking photos of delivered shipments.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the yard, warehouse, and vehicle during work.
  • Stay productive during downtime.
  • Keep the truck supplied, organized, and clean.
  • Arrive professionally attired and check load accuracy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge

  • Complete required new hire training.
  • Learn products and their applications for end users.

  • Demonstrate legal and thorough knowledge of tie-down rules and regulations.
  • Understand weight, height, and length limits.
  • Participate in ongoing training and learn best practices for loading, strapping, and driving.

Safety

  • Use proper lifting techniques, including buddy lifting when necessary.
  • Always wear high-visibility and proper uniform.
  • Utilize safety gear (seatbelt, eye protection, ear protection, etc.).
  • Keep the truck clean daily.
  • Consistently follow safety protocols.
  • Minimize product damage and demonstrate care.
  • Proactively report safety issues to managers and team members.
  • Encourage coworkers to follow safety best practices.
  • Participate in the safety committee as able.
  • Teach and coach teammates to learn from others’ mistakes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Open and transparent communication.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices or map applications.
  • Able to read a tape measure.
  • Knowledge of building materials.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English.
  • Wear puncture-resistant, slip-resistant shoes made of leather or composite material with ankle support.

Working Conditions

This position works at a millworks facility and makes deliveries to jobsites in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and walk.

Pay

$19.44-$21.53 hourly
