About the role

This position formally reports to the Deli Manager. It is a non-exempt position requiring a food handling permit and completion of ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items under the guidance of the department manager.
  • Practice appropriate portion control and adhere to all safety, health, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Enforce strict quality control measures across all deli product areas.
  • Supervise and manage part-time cooks, ensuring operational effectiveness and fostering a positive team atmosphere.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and customers, promoting a positive customer service environment.
  • Manage inventory by counting and verifying merchandise, and monitoring product dates.
  • Prepare, package, and label products for sales, ensuring all coolers and preparation areas are clean and organized.
  • Support the store by completing additional tasks, assisting other stores or departments, and acquiring new skills.
  • Perform physical tasks such as reaching overhead, lifting up to 20 lbs., standing, walking, bending, squatting, and working in cold environments.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One year of previous cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation is required.
  • Six months experience in deli or food service production facility is required.
  • A comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines is required.

Qualifications

  • A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.

Skills

  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
  • Effective inventory management and rotation procedures.
  • Basic math and reading skills required for the position.
  • Ability to operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and completely.
  • Knowledge of department programs, including recipes, menus, promotions, and standards.
