Essential Functions
- Selects the type of finish specified per work instruction to determine the amount of metal to be removed, and examines the part for the acceptability of the finish.
- Operates grinders and similar powered hand tools to remove burrs and blend or polish surfaces to correct minor machining errors; uses carbide burr tools to remove excess material from parts without causing damage to parts.
- Performs blending of metals, including steel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium; possesses the ability to create radius on areas of parts by hand.
- Performs work in compliance with prints and written specifications; selects appropriate methods and tools to comply with specs.
- Inspects equipment daily for damage; promptly reports issues to supervision and may enter work orders or communicate with maintenance personnel; inspects and replaces worn belts and grinding wheels; may perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools & equipment used.
- Operates tumblers; loads & unloads tumbler hopper as needed.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensures others maintain the same.
- Selects and follows directions consistently and accepts responsibility for actions and work product.
- Complies with applicable manufacturing processes, work procedures, and supervisor instructions.
- Adheres to safety guidelines and procedures; proactively identifies job hazards and collaborates with leadership to minimize hazards and ensure employee safety.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, and stand for long periods to perform job duties.
- Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment.
- Sometimes reach overhead and reach out or down to perform duties.
- Sometimes bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
- Frequently use hands or fingers to manually inspect parts and operate tools and/or material handling controls.
Working Conditions
- Excessive noise (hearing protection required).
- Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly).
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally).
- Hazardous equipment, including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (regularly).
