Debris Monitor

About the role

We are a leading Disaster Recovery Emergency Management Consulting firm seeking Debris Monitors in the Hamilton County, IN area. This temporary, episodic position involves onsite monitoring and observation of debris loading and hauling activities following disaster events.

Responsibilities

• Act courteously, respectfully, and professionally with residents, contractors, officials, and team members.
• Report to work on time, attend staging musters, and receive assignments from the Supervisor.
• Proceed to assigned work zones or designated areas to monitor debris loading activities.
• Observe and confirm that contractors load only eligible storm-related debris from public rights-of-way or property, avoiding private property.
• Wear a safety vest and hardhat at all times while out of the vehicle.
• Maintain a safe distance from loading operations and report unsafe conditions or reckless contractor behavior.
• Complete logs accurately and legibly, recording any damages caused by contractors to private property or public utilities.
• Report to the Supervisor at the end of the day, submit all tickets, logs, and field forms, and brief on the day’s activities and issues.
• Sign out on the roster and complete timesheet, with Supervisor verification.

Requirements

• Positive, friendly, and courteous customer service and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and work instructions at all times.
• Pass a drug screen, motor vehicle, and criminal background check.
• Valid state driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
• Reliable and dependable vehicle for following trucks, and a cellular phone with a charger.
• Ability to climb ladders, trucks, and platforms up to 20 feet and lift 25 lbs. throughout the day.
• Ability to work in high temperatures, high humidity, and harsh outdoor conditions for long periods.
• Ability to drive and work in disaster-affected areas while adhering to health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED preferred.
• Prior debris monitoring experience preferred.

Schedule

• Work as early as 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week during response periods (around 12 to 14 hours per day).
• Able to work up to 75-80 hours per week as needed, including weekends.
