Position Title

Job Summary

The Dean, Health Sciences provides academic and administrative leadership for the division. This role oversees faculty and staff, manages curriculum and program quality, and ensures compliance with academic policies and institutional standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating divisional operations, leading assessment and planning processes, programmatic accreditation, and managing budgets. The Dean represents the division internally and externally, supports strategic initiatives, and contributes to institutional effectiveness. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Dean plays an active role in advancing the College’s mission and strategic plan.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or a combination of relevant experience, education and training that equates to the required degree.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in post-secondary education, with experience in administration, academic support or institutional effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in field related to discipline in higher education.
  • Progressive leadership experience in post-secondary education institution.

Physical Demands

  • Light physical activity required; must be able to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in various formats.
  • Primarily daytime hours with some evening and weekends to support College events and initiatives.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Functions

  • Leads program and curriculum design, development, and evaluation in alignment with college policies to ensure quality and relevance.
  • Oversees course scheduling, program review, and assessment, using data to inform improvements and student success strategies.
  • Guides programmatic accreditation work.
  • Manages division dual credit offerings and maintains partnerships with area high schools to support college readiness and curricular alignment.
  • Recommends hiring, tenure, and retention for faculty and staff.
  • Conducts classroom observations and performance evaluations.
  • Supports probationary faculty through the tenure process and professional development.
  • Develops and monitors the division’s budget, ensuring adequate resources and safe, well-maintained learning environments.
  • Oversees inventory, equipment, and supply management.
  • Maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, participates in consortia, and fosters innovation and responsiveness to change.
  • Addresses student concerns and promotes retention through targeted interventions.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
