Job Summary

Provide and coordinate Tactile ASL and ProTactile interpretation for DeafBlind (DB), Hard of Hearing (HH) programs at the Braille Institute of America to support client needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide interpretation and coordinate volunteer interpreters to support clients during Braille appointments and classes.
  • Lead weekly Tactile ASL and ProTactile communication classes for DeafBlind community members (as needed).
  • Support the Volunteer Impact Program (VIP) team with the recruitment, coordination, training, and mentoring of volunteer interpreters.
  • Work collaboratively with the Education Programs Manager and Regional Director to make program recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Help greet and gather students as they arrive at the Center.
  • Interface with staff and transportation services as needed.
  • Provide safety recommendations and train colleagues as needed.
  • Provide translation and coordinator support to all seven Southern California Centers as needed (some travel may be required).

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate linguistic fluency and cognitive flexibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and ability to creatively problem solve.
  • Minimum of two years interpreting experience.
  • Tactile ASL and Pro Tactile training and experience preferred.
  • Cultural knowledge of the Deaf community and its resources preferred.
  • Certification or proof of fluency in interpreting Tactile ASL and Pro Tactile required.

Work Environment

Position works in a standard office environment. Physical Requirements: Position operates standard office equipment.

Hourly Range

$26.00 to $30.00

Schedule

The position will be part-time, 3 days a week. Wednesday thru Friday.

Benefits

The position will be eligible for vacation, sick time and the retirement plan but will not be eligible for health and welfare benefits.
