Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Children's Services, Davidson County. This position is full-time, on-site and requires a criminal background check.
Pay
$4,672 – $5,844 per month ($56,064 – $70,128 annually).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work or a related behavioral-science field with a child or family focus and three years of full-time professional child-welfare case work (e.g., social, psychological, or correctional counseling; volunteer-services coordination; juvenile classification), or
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of the same experience.
Special requirements:
- At least 21 years old on date of application.
- U.S. citizen.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (no DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations in the past five years).
- Good moral character as determined by investigation.
- No felony convictions.
- Agree to release criminal-history records and supply fingerprints for TBI background check.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
- Supervise staff who provide case-management services for children under State supervision, in State custody, or at risk of State custody, and their families.
- Assist case managers in determining abuse or neglect, risk level, need for safety plans, and recommendations regarding permanency, reunification, or termination of parental rights.
- Assess underlying family needs and core concerns to ensure child safety.
- Review and assess cases for closure or transfer based on policy requirements.
- Assign cases and provide performance feedback, including professional development and corrective action.
- Analyze data (response times, overdue reports, Child and Family Team Meetings, placement reports, EPSDT and dental compliance, face-to-face visits) using SharePoint and Excel to track child-welfare outcomes.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams (Child Protective Services Investigative Team, Foster Care Review Board, Community Advisory Board) to inform case-planning decisions.
- Interpret policies and procedures for staff, community partners, and clients.
- Guide subordinates in case decision-making, resource allocation, and outcomes.
- Coach staff on addressing family needs to ensure client safety.
- Conduct case conferences to provide guidance, feedback, and next steps for safety, permanency, and well-being.
- Ensure subordinates follow policy guidelines for case documentation and meet completion requirements.
- Review and monitor ongoing assessments of subordinates to ensure quality case management.
- Document discussions with staff, including Employee Performance Briefings (EPBs) and case conferences.
- Track, create, and communicate reports on regional data to ensure state and federal compliance.
- Ensure timely and accurate information is provided to internal and external entities (e.g., courts).
- Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and after hours.
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and visitations; transport children to appointments; assist with placement preparation.
- Build trustful relationships with children and families; explain parental rights and relevant documents; respond timely to families, providers, and coworkers.
- Make referrals to service providers; collaborate with law enforcement and multi-disciplinary teams; train foster parents, adoptive parents, and community members.
