About the role
The Distribution Center Trainer is responsible for providing training to team members to safely and efficiently unload, sort, and load cartons and pallets in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver Effective On-the-Job Training: Lead hands-on training for both new hires and existing team members, ensuring thorough understanding of processes, safety protocols, and performance expectations.
- Tailor training approaches to individual learning styles and operational needs.
- Support Daily Operational Flow: Actively work cartons and pallets across all functional areas of the distribution center, demonstrating best practices and setting a high standard for productivity, safety, and accuracy.
- Execute Core Warehouse Functions: Receiving: Efficiently unload inbound pallets and/or cartons, verifying shipment accuracy. Sorting: Organize and palletize cartons according to destination or workflow needs. Loading: Load pallets securely onto outbound trailers, following proper safety and documentation procedures.
- Provide Direction and Support: Execute tasks based on priorities set by Leads or Managers. Reinforce operational directives and serve as a trusted extension of leadership within the workflow.
- Coach for Performance and Development: Conduct informal and formal performance evaluations. Deliver actionable feedback and ongoing coaching to drive improvements in associate productivity, quality, and safety behavior.
- Administer administrative tasks as needed: printing and organizing learning materials, tracking training sign-offs. Conduct behavioral observation walks and safety walks.
- Champion a Proactive Safety Culture: Promote and model a safety-first mindset. Ensure completion of Behavioral Observation Surveys (BOS), identify and immediately address unsafe conditions, and reinforce all safety standards during training and daily operations.
- Drive Change and Continuous Improvement: Act as a catalyst for positive change by identifying process inefficiencies, recommending improvements, and fostering a culture of learning, adaptability, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with operations & human resources to identify critical skills gaps and create training plans with human resources to address them.
- Train and coach team members on the safe and effective interaction with automated material handling systems, including driverless forklifts (AGVs/AMRs) and automated offloading equipment. Reinforce proper procedures, troubleshoot basic issues, and promote adherence to safety and operational standards to ensure successful adoption and consistent performance within an automated environment.
Qualifications
- 1+ years warehousing or training experience.
- Prior experience in training, mentoring, or team leadership strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of SOPs, and safety standards.
- Strong communication, coaching, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in English - Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Ability to lead by example and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and solutions-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds required.
