About the role

The essential functions of the Para-Educator position include regular, dependable attendance on the job, the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities, and the ability to perform the physical requirements. Reports To: Building Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Aid students in the regular classroom and in the resource room.
  • First aid knowledge.
  • Train and teach students - Identify the educational needs and teach or instruct.
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.
  • Maintain confidentiality - maintain a positive relationship with students refraining from discussion of student matters outside the school setting.
  • Communicate with Supervisors and Peers - Provide information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Translate or explain what information means and how it can be used.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Grade homework and tests, and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.

  • Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Written Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Speech Clarity - The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Auditory Attention - The ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds.
  • Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Patience - Exhibit and maintain.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of special education curriculum and resources.
  • Ability to adapt materials and equipment to meet individual student needs.
  • Ability to implement behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Benefits

At-Will Employment: Employment with the School District is not for a set period of time (follows teacher annual contract dates), and either party may terminate this agreement, with or without cause, and with or with two weeks' notice. Employment with the School District is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or inconsistent with those stated in this employment agreement. The terms of this employment agreement may not be modified except in a writing signed by the Superintendent of Schools.

Pay

Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

Schedule

Specific schedule to be determined by the building principal.
