Day Time Lifeguard

Job Functions

• Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open pool promptly at scheduled time.
• Smile and greet members courteously.
• Aid in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of aquatic special events, including but not limited to lap swim incentives and water walking incentives.
• Maintain surveillance of lap swimmers and assign fast or slow lanes as needed.
• Explain classes and pool procedures to program participants and enforce all posted pool rules.
• Provide friendly, courteous service to all members, clients, and volunteers of the YMCA.
• Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor on appropriate forms.
• Wear appropriate lifeguard attire as requested by supervisor.
• Attend all staff meetings scheduled by supervisor.
• Secure ALL pool doors at the end of your shift unless properly relieved by another certified staff member.
• Communicate all program and membership promotions to all program participants and members.

Requirements

• Specific Availability Required: 4:30 AM - 9:00 AM (shifts can be flexible within this timeframe).
• Minimum 16 years old.
• Jeff Ellis and Associates lifeguard training preferred. Training available at time of hire.
• Strong swimming ability (must be able to swim 200 yards, tread water for 2 minutes, and retrieve a 10-pound brick from depth).
• Ability to maintain composure and follow protocols during emergencies, drills, or audits.
• Ability to focus and be diligent.
• Physical capability to perform all tasks of a lifeguard and lift an adult male from the pool onto the pool deck.
