Day Shift Veterinary Technician - ICU

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is hiring experienced Day Shift Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. The role of Veterinary Technician is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity that will allow you to utilize the skills you have worked hard to gain while expanding and growing them alongside talented veterinary professionals.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other coworkers.
• Demonstrate patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Pay

$23.20 - $43.70/hour. This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Shift Differentials

• Weekday Night (Mon–Fri 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat–Sun 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat–Sun 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.): $5.50
