Day Shift Veterinary Assistant - Emergency

About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Arden Hills, MN is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting DVMs with estimates, performing diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.), setting up patients in ICU or the inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and physical exams, accurately measuring vital signs (heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort).
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated roles as assigned by the attending clinician and/or supervisor.
